MONTHLY LUNCHEON

November Luncheon Program

"The Wonderful World of Kendo!"

by Alex Bennett

It is our privilege to host Alex Bennett, founding editor of Kendo World magazine.  Alex is a noted practitioner of kendo: “a form of physical and mental discipline that nurtures self-esteem and esteem for others through the medium of the shinai (bamboo sword).”

A native of New Zealand, Alex lives in Kyoto.  He is editor-in-chief of both a kendo website and magazine, recognized as the leading source of information in English on the sport. He completed a masters degree followed by a PhD at Kyoto University.

Alex has been involved with kendo, which literally means “the way of the sword,” for over 21 years.  He has trained under the best sensei and traveled to many countries promoting the art.  Kendo is a martial art with a long and interesting history.  According to Bennett, kendo “is a life philosophy and is also a competitive sport that is very spiritual in nature.”

You will not want to miss our November luncheon!  Come and experience the fascinating world of kendo!
