MONTHLY LUNCHEON November Luncheon Program

It is our privilege to host Alex Bennett, founding editor of
Kendo World magazine.
Alex is a noted practitioner of kendo: “a form of
physical and mental discipline that nurtures self-esteem and
esteem for others through the medium of the shinai (bamboo
sword).”
A native of New Zealand, Alex lives in Kyoto.
He is editor-in-chief of both a kendo website and
magazine, recognized as the leading source of information in
English on the sport. He completed a masters degree followed by
a PhD at
Alex has been involved with kendo, which literally means “the
way of the sword,” for over 21 years.
He has trained under the best sensei and traveled to many
countries promoting the art.
Kendo is a martial art with a long and interesting
history. According
to Bennett, kendo “is a life philosophy and is also a
competitive sport that is very spiritual in nature.”
