SCHOLARSHIP FOR THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED TO STUDY ABROAD
(SVI-SA)
2011

 

1 Scholarship, ¥2.0 Million

The SVI-SA Program supports visually impaired Japanese or special permanent resident students for graduate or undergraduate study abroad.
   
Eligibility Requirements
1. Applicants must be visually impaired men or women, with a Certificate of Disability Grade 1-6.
   
2. Applicants must be nationals or special permanent residents of Japan, living in Japan from the time of the application until March 31, 2011.
   
  Individuals currently studying or living abroad are ineligible. We regret that we cannot accept applications from outside Japan.
   
3. Applicants for an undergraduate award must have completed at least two years of undergraduate study in Japan by March 31, 2011.
   
4. Applicants for a graduate award must have graduated from a Japanese university (4 year course) by March 31, 2011.
   
5. Applicants must be accepted in an academic study program at an accredited university or institution abroad by April 10, 2011. They must begin their studies within the year 2011 to be eligible for the 2011 scholarship program.
   
6. Applicants must submit a TOEFL or IELTS score as a part of their application. The test must have been taken after October 1, 2008.
   
7. Holders of scholarships greater than ¥1.0 million from any other scholarship foundation or from company scholarship programs (kigyo ryugaku) are ineligible. Financial aid and awards from the university where the applicant will study will be are excepted from this limitation.
   
8. CWAJ members are ineligible.
   
   
Obtaining the Application
   
Application forms are available to be downloaded from the CWAJ website. Forms are also available by e-mail and by post from CWAJ. The deadline for requesting application forms by e-mail or post is Friday, November 12, 2010.

2. Requesting an application form via e-mail−to obtain an application form by e-mail, please write to scholarship@cwaj.org.

Submitting the Application
  Please note the following:
1. We cannot accept e-mail applications.
   
2. All applications must be written in English.
   
3. Do not send the application by yubin kakitome (registered mail) or takuhaibin.
   
PERIOD OF ACCEPTANCE:
  Applications must be postmarked on or between Monday, November 1, and Tuesday, November 30, 2010.

Please do not send extra documents. The scholarship committee will consider only the documents we request. CWAJ cannot return any of the materials you send us.
   
Interviews and Selection
  Interviews of the finalists will be held in February in Tokyo. You should plan to be available during that month. You will be notified at least two weeks in advance if you have been selected for an interview. The interview will be conducted in English. Applicants will be notified of the results in writing.
   
  CWAJ reserves the right to make its own selections and does not enter into any discussion of its decisions.
