Luncheon and Monthly Meetings

February 4, 2015

Kit Nagamura, TV host, photojournalist and author of the Japan Times popular column “The Backstreet Stories” entertained us greatly. She shared with us her journey to becoming a writer including a list of literature that had impacted her. We were warned that by reading them we too risked developing an irresistible desire to becoming writers.

We enjoyed stories from her many walks, charming vignettes both humorous and surprising, illustrating the sweetness and humor she finds amongst the people she encounters. Her love of Tokyo (and immense courage!) was apparent. The program ended with lovely haiku set to photos from Kits explorations.

Her infectious enthusiasm inspired us to explore and keep our eyes open for encounters everywhere. Kindly she shared with us trade secrets on getting people to open up as well as a few hidden gems to visit!

We enjoyed this opportunity to meet Kit and hear her stories. We look forward to continuing to read her column in Japan Times, to watching her “Journeys in Japan” series on NHK as well as upcoming photo exhibits.
