Tatsuo Matsuyama, Managing Editor of Print Art Magazine HANGA GEIJUTSU

The 60th Anniversary Print Show week kicked off with our October Luncheon. We were pleased to introduce Tatsuo Matsuyama, the Managing Editor of the Print Art Magazine HANGA GEIJUTSU. The only print-art magazine in Japan, HANGA GEIJUSTU boasts a long history and is a well-respected quarterly publication. Mr. Matsuyama is one of Japan’s foremost specialists in the world of Japanese prints and has been a strong supporter of the CWAJ Print Show, giving invaluable advice at every opportunity. For this special year Mr. Matsuyama ran a four -page story about the 60th Print Show in the fall issue of the magazine.

His 30 years as editor in chief at HANGA GEIJUTSU gives him an unrivaled perspective on the ever-changing genre. He lectures at museums and universities in and out of Japan, and is also a seasoned competition juror.

Mr. Matsuyama spoke to us about the history and development of Contemporary Japanese Prints using examples of artwork from the 60th CWAJ Print Show. His lecture was in Japanese and was interpreted for us by CWAJ member Michiko Okubo.

We were also pleased to introduce many guests including overseas members, representatives from The Tokyo Club, Nao Masuda, The 2015 Young Printmaker Award Recipient and Jie Wang, 60th Print Show Anniversary Scholar.
