Graduate Scholarship for Non-Japanese Women to Study in Japan (NJG) 2017

2 Scholarships, ¥2 Million each

The application period for the 2017 Scholarship programs is now closed.

The NJG Program supports graduate study in Japan for non-Japanese women who are enrolled in graduate degree programs at Japanese universities.

Eligibility Requirements

  1. Applicants must be women who are neither Japanese citizens nor Special Permanent Residents of Japan. Applicants must be enrolled in a degree program with a graduate school of a Japanese university from April 2017 to March 2018.
  2. Applicants must be residing in Japan at the time of application.
    Individuals currently studying or living abroad are ineligible. We therefore regret that we are unable to accept applications from outside Japan.
  3. Submit an essay in both English and Japanese.

The following are ineligible:

  1. Holders of scholarships greater than ¥1.5 million from other scholarship programs are ineligible. Financial aid and awards from the university where the applicant will study may not be subject to the same limitation.
  2. Former recipients of CWAJ awards and members of CWAJ.

Submitting the Application

All applications must be written in English, except for the essay, which must be written in both English and Japanese.

The Application Package

  1. Include your application forms and the other required documents.Write “NJG Application” on the envelope and send it by postDo not send by registered mail (yubin kakitome), Letterpack Plus, takuhaibin, or any method that requires a signature/hanko upon delivery, as these will NOT be accepted.
  2. Incomplete applications or applications submitted without the required number of copies will not be considered.

Please note the following:

  1. Do not send extra documents such as publications, abstracts or title pages. The scholarship committee will consider only the documents we request.
  2. We do not accept applications via e-mail.
  3. No documents will be returned.

Monday, October 17 through Wednesday, October 26, 2016

Interviews and Selection

Interviews of the finalists will be held during February in Tokyo. They are usually conducted on weekends. You will be notified at least two weeks in advance if you have been selected for an interview. The interviews will be conducted in both English and Japanese. Applicants will be notified of the results in writing.

CWAJ reserves the right to make its own selections and does not discuss its decisions.
