SVI-SJ Scholarship Eligibility

– Visually impaired women or men with a Certificate of Disability Grade 1-6.

Japanese citizen or Special Permanent Resident (特別永住者).

– Living in Japan and will be living in Japan through the end of April 2025.

– Undergraduate applicants will have finished at least two years of a four year course at a Japanese university by July 31, 2025.

– Graduate school applicants will have finished a four year course at a Japanese university by the end of March 2025, and be enrolled in a graduate course during the scholarship year (2025-2026).

– No other scholarship greater than 60万円 per year from any other scholarship programs for the duration of the CWAJ Scholarship. (excluding loans, disability pensions, and tuition reductions)

– I have not received a CWAJ Scholarship in the past, and I am not a CWAJ Member.

 

Application Requirements

You will be required to submit: an application essay, your education transcripts, two letters of recommendations, a copy of your residence card if applicable, and a ¥2,000 application processing fee. You may submit materials in Japanese or English, but please note that English skills are not required for this scholarship.

Timeline

Finalists will be interviewed online or in person in Tokyo. Candidates should plan to be available during the month when interviews are being held (likely February) and will be notified at least two weeks in advance if they have been selected for an interview. Applicants will be notified of the results by email.
