April Greetings

Dear Members,

It is March and I am looking forward to hanami, my favorite time of year in Japan. I want to share a few updates with you. The board continues to work well together and we are focused on our four goals: diversify the membership, iIncrease our brand recognition, increase in person meetings, and reduce the load on volunteers.

The big news this month is that we are working hard on improving CWAJ’s visibility. Social media: Hillary Kobayashi and Momo Kamimura and their teams are concentrating very hard on posting more on social media and linking the posts to the website, where potential members are encouraged to explore CWAJ. Last month, they posted on average three times a week and, as of March 1 , we have 1,861 followers. Membership reported that one person learned about CWAJ through LinkedIn. Way to go!

IWD Event with Outreach: The Development Team organized a very successful International Women’s Day program on March 8, designed to impress Japanese speaking donors, potential members and, what I call, influencers, people who are widely recognized and admired in their professional fields. The stellar panel was made up of five respected women, each with a different area of expertise. Now these influencers know a lot more about CWAJ, and we fully expect that they will spread the word about CWAJ in their various professional circles. Two of the panelists were past recipients of CWAJ scholarships, and they publicly thanked CWAJ for making a difference in their lives. The heartwarming endorsements could not have been better publicity! Many thanks to Marijke Munsiff and Joanna Chinen and their full team for their dedication to this event.

The Annual Report and your role: As Suz Wilkinson often says, the best way to improve our visibility is by word of mouth. The attractive and highly informative 2023 Annual Report is out and ready for distribution, thanks to Suz. Please tell your friends about CWAJ. Friends will remember your positive introduction to CWAJ and your effort will prompt them to attend the Print Show next fall when they see the advertisements.

One more easy thing that you can do to increase CWAJ visibility: invite a friend to join the April or May General Meeting.  Both can be attended by Zoom and both highlight that CWAJ is place for people who want to make the world a better place to live. At the April General Meeting, we will have a presentation about the CWAJ activities of Education, including an explanation of the good work done by CWAJ to support the visually impaired. At the May meeting, the new scholars will be introduced, an opportunity to see the kind of outstanding women we support. Contact General Meeting Manager, for guest sign-up at. generalmeetingmanagers@cwaj.org.

Many thanks to all for your ongoing support of CWAJ! Enjoy the Cherry Blossoms,

Heidi
President
