CWAJ VVI 50th Anniversary Concert, Rika Sugata Piano Recital with Seina Kudo, Soprano

Volunteers for the Visually Impaired (VVI) is celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year of providing meaningful, unique programs for people with visual impairments. On the occasion of this anniversary, CWAJ will hold a special Anniversary Concert featuring Rika Sugata on the piano and soprano Seina Kudo. 

Ms Sugata, recipient of the CWAJ Scholarship for the Visually Impaired in 2021, graduated from the University of Tokyo as valedictorian with a degree in education. She received the University President Grand Prize. She also served as the representative of UNiTe, a University of Tokyo student organization that aims to connect the United Nations with youth through culture and the arts. She currently performs piano recitals and shares her life stories while working at a multinational financial firm. In June 2024, she performed at the Symphony Hall with Senri Philharmonia Osaka, under the Direction of Kazuki Sawa.

Ms Kudo, also visually impaired, studied piano and voice at the Department of Musical Arts, College of Music, Ferris University. She was selected one as of the top students to perform at the graduation concert. She has appeared on musical shows and well-known commercials, including those for Shiseido and Meiji. She currently continues to perform and engage in vocal coaching, while working in a multinational company.

Rika Sugata will perform pieces by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin and 4 songs with Seina Kudo.
