On behalf of the committee, we are pleased to announce the 2025 Young Printmaker Award recipient is Kobayashi Kanta. He is in the second year of the master program in Nihon University. The committee was impressed with his artwork, potential, and vision as a printmaker. The award-winning work was inspired by a park near the dormitory where he lives. He reinterpreted the sounds, light, tactile sensations, and other things he felt there at night in his own mind, and expressed them on the screen using lines and surfaces.
Kobayashi Kanta will use the award money of ¥500,000 to conduct comparative and contrastive experiments with existing tools and supports related to woodblock printing, in parallel, to exploring tools (including natural objects), supports and techniques that lead to new forms of expression.
Kobayashi is invited to exhibit and sell the winning print at the Print Show. And he will be invited to exhibit new prints at the Print Show in three years.
