June Announcement

As Members, you give a lot of your time to CWAJ. Thank you for all you do for our organization!

It is fundraising season at CWAJ. If you live in Japan, you should have received the 2024 Annual Report and spring donation packet in the mail. If you live outside Japan, you should receive your mailing soon. We included a list of the corporate donations levels — please let us know if any businesses you know might be interested in sponsoring a general meeting or other CWAJ event.

For all members and friends of CWAJ who would like a receipt to deduct the gift to CWAJ from their taxes, there are two options:

(1) To get a tax receipt in Japan, check the box to designate your donation through the Japan Foundation. You will receive a tax receipt from the Japan Foundation at the end of the year. However, Japan Foundation earmarked donations will be restricted to “cultural exchange” scholarships, and not eligible to be used for scholarships to scholars pursuing pure medicine, science, mathematics or computer science degrees (with only a few exceptions, such as public health and education in those fields).

(2) In the USA we have formed a new entity called “Friends of CWAJ” that has applied to the IRS for charitable status. Friends of CWAJ’s application with the Internal Revenue Service for recognition of tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (the “Code”) as a public charity described in Section 509(a)(1) of the Code is pending. If, as we anticipate, the IRS approves our application, your contribution to “Friends of CWAJ” will be tax deductible as a charitable contribution to the full extent allowed by law. Checks should be mailed to Silvia Wilson. Thank you Silvia for all your hard work on this project!

If you have any questions about donations, if you’d like to join the team, or if you have feedback on the spring mailing, please contact us at donations@cwaj.org. We look forward to hearing from you.
