Following years of weakness, inflation has been picking up sharply across the developed world. In what ways does the current pick-up in global inflation differ from the past, and is it sustainable? And how should central banks react? Most importantly, will inflation finally reach the shores of Japan. If so, what are the implications for the Japanese markets?
Profile: Izumi Devalier
Izumi Devalier is a Managing Director and Head of Japan Economics, based in Tokyo. In her role, she is responsible for the analysis of the Japanese economy and markets as well as disseminating BofA’s global economic views to Japanese clients.
Devalier was the No. 1 ranked Japan economist in the 2021 Institutional Investor Global Fixed-Income Research Survey for the second year running. She is a frequent commentator on CNBC and Bloomberg TV.
Devalier is a passionate supporter of diversity and inclusion in the workplace. She is the Co-Chair for the Japan chapter of the BofA Global Banking and Markets Women’s Leadership Council (WLC), a network of female leaders who are dedicated to supporting the empowerment of women in BofA and in Japan’s finance industry.
Devalier joined the firm in September 2016 from HSBC, where she was a senior economist with primary coverage of Japan. She has also worked in the investment banking division of Citigroup in Japan.
She holds a Master’s Degree in International Economics from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies and Bachelor’s degree in political science from Columbia University.
