June Greetings

The FY2024-25 ended on February 28. I am pleased to report that CWAJ had a successful year. By successful, I mean that, thanks to each and everyone of the members for their time, talent or treasure, CWAJ raised:

– JPY14 million for scholarships in 2026  (For planning purposes, CWAJ raises funds for scholarships two years in advance of current fundraising year)

–  JPY2 million for an additional Non-Japanese scholar in 2025 which means that CWAJ is awarding scholarships to seven women in 2025

– Up to JPY300,000 for a much-needed new computer at the CWAJ Center, one with sufficient speed and memory to handle our growing number of IT applications

And, on top of this, CWAJ  has been able to maintain its contingency fund of JPY24 million for yet another  year.

All of this was possible with donations from members totaling JPY10 million; Print Show net income of JPY8 million; JPY1 million donated by the 75th Anniversary Committee events and approximately JPY1.7 million by VVI and other member activities.

We should all stand proud!

Now we’re moving forward with the FY2025–26 budget. It reflects our focus on our goals to increase membership, increase brand recognition, increase in person meetings, and lighten the load for volunteer administrative work. The year is punctuated with four special events: celebration of VVI’s 50th anniversary with the Life is Climbing film and talk event in April;  a Charity Concert in November in honor of VVI’s 50th anniversary; the traveling Highfield Hall Print Show in June to October in the U.S.A.; and a scholarship presentation at the Expo in Osaka in July!

Onward and upward!
