PRINT SHOW UPDATES

During this record-breaking hot summer, PS Committee members have worked hard preparing for another successful show in October – creating the beautiful catalogue and attractive products as well as planning the exhibition layout. Please consider volunteering before, during, after the Print Show! No matter your schedule, there are ways in which you can be involved. Please look out for an email from our Volunteer Coordinators who will be recruiting for various roles, or email them if you would like to participate: psvolunteers@cwaj.org.

We are pleased to welcome Mr. Yuji Hiratsuka, Professor of Printmaking at Oregon State University, as a speaker for the September 17 PS kick-off General Meeting at FCCJ. He has been exhibiting in the CWAJ Print Show as many as 35 times. Many of CWAJ members will immediately recognize his distinctive style partly influenced by Japanese ukiyo-e prints. Mr. Hiratsuka has lived in the United States since 1985, and we were very fortunate that he happens to be in Japan on a family trip and able to give a lecture. Let’s take the time to hear in detail how his colorful, slightly humorous works are created.

One week after, Wednesday September 24 is the opening of the Special Exhibition ‘Amazing Fuji!’ at Frederick Harris Gallery, Tokyo American Club. The FHG show closes on October 12 and another set of prints will be displayed at Hillside Forum in the 68th Print Show. Mount Fuji has been a rich source of inspiration in Japan for literature and art since the eighth century. In this exhibition you will be able to enjoy a wide variety of Mount Fuji prints portrayed by six prominent artists, HAGIWARA Hideo, AKIYAMA Iwao, KAWADA Kan, YOKOO Tadanori (only at Hillside Forum), MORIMURA Ray, and SUGIYAMA Osamu. We will also display SHINODA Toko and ever popular owl prints by AKIYAMA Iwao in the ‘Legacy Artists’ Exhibition’.
