Bunraku is Japan’s traditional puppet theatre, originating in 17th century Osaka. It brings together three art forms-hand operated puppets, dramatic narration and shamisen music to tell deeply human stories. Recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, Bunraku remains a living classical art today.
The event will include Climatic Performances, Osome, from the play Shinpan Utazaimon and Osono, from Hadesugata Onna Maiginu plus some hands-on opportunities for the audience to gain a deeper understanding of Bunraku.
You may also pay for your tickets in cash on the door. If you wish to use this option, please contact bunrakuevent@cwaj.org for further information.
