The CWAJ, General Incorporated Association CWAJ (College Women’s Association of Japan, official name: General Incorporated Association CWAJ)*, is pleased to announce the 69th CWAJ Print Show. The open-competition juried show has, since 1956, introduced outstanding Japanese contemporary prints, and includes some invited artists and an Associate Show. Each year it exhibits and sells about 200 works representing contemporary Japanese prints, ranging from traditional woodblock-style to pop contemporary art, with the net proceeds going toward the CWAJ Scholarships for women and visually impaired male and female students. Purchasing prints and related merchandise provides direct assistance
to nurture women leaders and supports visually impaired students, contributing to the future. The Young Printmaker Award (YPA), established by CWAJ to support young printmakers, is now in its 22nd year, and the CWAJ Loro Piana Woman Artist Award, which supports the success of Japanese women printmakers, is in its fifth year.
Hands-on Art
Hands on Art is a long-standing program of CWAJ that allows visually impaired visitors to enjoy print exhibitions. The Hands on Art Team selects a few works that are made into raised copies, so that participants can appreciate the prints by touching lines and surfaces with their hands while hearing explanations. Although the number of raised images that can be created is limited, the volunteer guides provide commentary on other prints displayed at the venue.
