APPLICATION DEADLINE: November 9, 2026
Residency Eligibility
The CWAJ Artist in Residence 2027 offers a unique opportunity in the United States for a Japanese print artist who has exhibited at least once in a CWAJ Print Show and is a Japanese citizen or a Special Permanent Resident living in Japan. There is no age limit for applicants.
The residency is designed for print artists seeking to develop new skills, explore new creative directions, and experience a cultural exchange between Japan and the United States.
CWAJ is proud to offer this residency in partnership with Oehme Graphics. With nearly 40 years of experience as a master printer, Sue Oehme brings a wealth of knowledge and technique to each print project at Oehme Graphics. Underlying almost every aspect of the printing time in the studio is the concept of collaboration. Decisions about mediums, color, and image are shared, discussed and made in a communal setting with everyone offering their thoughts and ideas. We firmly believe in the power of multiple brains working on each problem to discover the best possible solutions.
Artists in residency at OG will learn a multitude of new ways to realize their imagery, new pairings of colors and mixtures of inks, and will leave the studio with new ideas percolating in their heads to take back to their art practice. Each project is a success when the artist has discovered some new thing to use as a jumping off point for more exploration.
