Norman H. Tolman
(July 12, 1936 – January 15, 2025)
It is with deep sorrow that we mark the passing of Norman Tolman, a long-time supporter, donor, and friend of CWAJ. He was 88 years old. Mr. Tolman was the co-founder of the eminent The Tolman Collection. An avid art collector, he was passionate about contemporary Japanese prints and determined to bring them to world attention. He published numerous books on Japanese contemporary prints, including Collecting Modern Japanese Prints Then & Now.
Mr.Tolman served in the CWAJ Print Show Selection Committee six times between 1971 and 1981, first as Director of the American Cultural Center, Kyoto, and later as Trustee of Matsuzaka Foundation. Mr. Tolman was always present at CWAJ Print Show openings for decades. He will be missed.
In lieu of flowers, the Tolman family asks that donations be made in his name to CWAJ – College Women’s Association of Japan.
