Please join us for this wonderful opportunity to enjoy a spectacular traditional Japanese instrumental concert to help us celebrate the Year of the Rat and partake in the Japanese Joy of the New Year.
The presenters are members of a world-famous family company, Miyamoto Unosuke Shoten, which since its inception in 1861, has supported traditional arts and festivals despite changes in Japanese society. In their own words: “What we have maintained throughout 150 years of history is the policy to change what needs to be changed, and to preserve what needs to be preserved. Our craftsmanship must support traditional arts and festivals and nourish them further into the future. Our philosophy has remained untouched for over 150 years.”
The performers will be:
Shogo Yoshii on the fue (flute), Taishi Yamabe on the taiko (drum), Asami Yamano on the koto (Japanese harp) and Junbei Otsuka on the shō (Japanese hand organ)
