In honor of CWAJ Print Show, CWAJ is offering the Artist-in-Residence, a special opportunity to support and encourage artists who have previously participated in the exhibition. This program will take place during the summer of 2027. The winning artist will receive a fully paid two week residence with a nationally renowned Master Printer, Sue Oehme, Oehme Graphics, in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, USA.
Eligibility: Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
- Be a printmaking artist of any age
- Have previously participated in a CWAJ Print Show or Exhibition
- Be a resident of Japan
- Have basic English communication skills
Residency Period: Two weeks between May and October, 2027. Exact dates to be determined by artist and Oehme Graphics.
Support Provided:
- Two week residency at Oehme Graphcis Studio
- Mentorship and Collaboration with nationally renowned Master Print Maker, Sue Oehme
- Full access to studio facilities, supplies and equipment, including 2 large print presses (no lithography available)
- Lunches during residency
- Private, no cost housing in apartment above the studio, bicycle available
- Opportunity to experience the culture and natural surroundings of Steamboat Springs and the Rocky Mountains
- A $2,500 travel stipend
- Participation in the 2027 CWAJ Print Show
Cost to the Artist:
- Personal expenses such as meals not provided
Expectations of the artist: During the residency, the selected artist will be expected to:
- Communicate in basic English during the residency
- Collaborate with the Masterprinter by exploring new techniques introduced by the studio and fellow artists
- Share experience with techniques and knowledge related to Japanese printmaking
- Produced at least one editioned print during the residency for future sale at CWAJ Print Show (subject to a 50% commission)
- Provide a second impression for the Oehme Graphics archive
- Participate in a video presentation or workshop, if requested

- Resume/CV
- Project Proposal essay describing the project the applicant hopes to undertake during their residency
- Three images of previous prints, presented in JPEG format approximately 5 MB or larger

Sue Oehme is an internationally recognized master printmaker and the founder of Oehme Graphics Studio in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. With decades of experience in fine art printmaking, she has worked with artists from around the world to create innovative prints. She is especially known for her work in intaglio, monotype, and mixed-media printmaking. Sue is passionate about supporting artists through collaboration, experimentation, and creative exchange, and she has also been an active leader in the local arts community, previously serving as President of Steamboat Creates.
