Historic Gavel Handed Over to Incoming President

As a start to the 75th year of CWAJ, current President Ritsuko Watanabe handed over the historic gavel to new CWAJ President Heidi Sweetnam. The handover ceremony between the outgoing and incoming presidents took place at the last CWAJ monthly meeting of the year, held on December 6 at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Japan.

The gavel was presented by Haru Reischauer, wife of former American Ambassador to Japan Edwin Reischauer, who served as CWAJ Honorary President from 1961 to 1966.

Ritsuko Watanabe has successfully served as CWAJ President for two and a half years. New President Sweetnam expressed her aspirations saying that she is much honored to serve as president during this milestone year for CWAJ, which has such a long history, and that she will do her best.
