International Women’s Day Special Event on March 8th: Visions for Change – Talk, Q&A and Reception

The College Women’s Association of Japan (CWAJ) will celebrate International Women’s Day 2024 on March 8 with a program: Visions for Change.  Dr. Mieko Nakabayashi, an esteemed expert commentator on politics and social issues, will give the keynote address. Three trailblazing Japanese women from diverse backgrounds will share their inspiring experiences and visions for change to achieve a more inclusive and just society. An interactive Q&A discussion, moderated by Dr. Emiko Magoshi, will follow. The evening will conclude with a networking reception.

The program will be held in Japanese. The speakers at the event include:

Keynote speaker: 

Dr. Mieko Nakabayashi. Waseda University Professor of Political Science, political commentator, author of the best-selling book Simple Habits of Globally Competitive Professional Women,  and former member of the Japanese House of Representatives.

Panelists:

Yoko Narahashi: Producer, award-winning director of stage and screen, and casting director. Established Model Language Studio, United Performers’ Studio, and UPS ACADEMY. CWAJ Travel Grantee 1969.

Kanoko Oishi: CEO and Founder of Mediva, Inc. and C’s One, Inc. Managing Director of Platanus Medical Corporation. CWAJ Study Abroad Scholar 1986.

Arfiya Eri: Current member of the Japanese House of Representatives. Former staff member at the United Nations and Bank of Japan Officer.

Moderator: Dr. Emiko Magoshi. Professor Emeritus at J.F. Oberlin University, President of Transcultural

Management Society, Director of AXA Holdings Japan, author, and former NHK radio host.

 

International Women’s Day is a global day honoring the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The International Women’s Day 2024 campaign theme is Inspire Inclusion. As an organization that has worked for the inclusion of women and people with a visual impairment for 75 years, CWAJ is honored to invite the community to join us in celebrating International Women’s Day. Together, we can continue to work towards gender equality and create a more inclusive and fair society for all.

About CWAJ

CWAJ is a non-profit organization that supports education and cultural exchange between Japan and the international community. Founded in 1949, CWAJ has a long history of promoting the empowerment and advancement of women through various programs and initiatives.

CWAJ is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year with over 50 years of awarding scholarships to Japanese women to study abroad and over 40 years of providing scholarships for non-Japanese women to study in Japan. CWAJ is the only organization in Japan to have continually funded scholarships designated for Japanese women to study abroad for 50 years. Also, CWAJ was the first organization to provide non-loan scholarships to Japanese women and men with a visual impairment.
